The video game industry grew to pass the movie industry in terms of revenue several years ago. As the industry has involved, it’s been great to see the genres expand, the incredible growth of casual games and the emergence of streaming as it’s own form of entertainment. But, did you know how big professional video games had become? Sure, Amazon bought Twitch for almost $1 billion last year but that was only the beginning. Google announced the expansion of Youtube as Youtube gaming, and there’s a lot more to it. Here’s what you need to know:
Organized video game competitions, or eSports, are quickly growing into a major segment of the electronic entertainment industry. Coca-Cola, American Express, and Samsung are just a few of the major corporations that are already getting involved and some, such as Intel, are hosting their own global tournaments. We have been working with some of the top e-sports teams in the world and some of the top brands in this new ecosystem and are continually surprised by their reach and the dedication from their fans.
